PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Five Ways of Leading model was co-designed by over 1000 people at NSW Transport to provide a framework of leadership behaviors that align with the organization's vision of For the Greater Good, Customer at the Centre, and People at the Heart. This model emphasizes that leadership is not just a position or title, and everyone can practice these behaviors to achieve outcomes.

The Problem to Solve

The client initially sent a brief to develop a set of five website pages that represent five different priority leadership skills, namely Caring, Creative, Sustainable, Empowering and Courageous. The purpose of these pages is to be included in the Five Ways website. Each leadership skill is characterized by its own colors and unique descriptions. The client has also requested to incorporate the "five ways" logo as the primary interactive element to navigate between these pages. The ultimate goal of the project is to feature the elements or content of their leadership model on the website.

The Journey

As a website designer for this project, I had to work under a strict deadline. To ensure that I could push through the designs to the developer on time, I set ambitious but achievable goals every day. I began by conducting research on the target audience, the purpose of the website, and the client's vision for the site. After analyzing the data, I created a wireframe of the site's layout and obtained feedback from the client to make necessary revisions. Once the wireframe was approved, I moved on to the visual design of the site, including color schemes, typography, and images. I collaborated with the developer throughout the process, ensuring that the design could be implemented within the project's technical constraints. To minimize revisions, I made sure to test the site thoroughly and obtain feedback from the client at every stage of the process. As a result, the client was very pleased with the final design, and it was implemented on fivewaysofleading.com.au with minimal revisions needed.

Final Result

Reflection

Looking back on this project, I can identify several areas where I performed well and others where I could improve my approach. One area I feel I excelled in was communication with the client. Despite a strict deadline, I was able to set achievable but ambitious goals for each day, and effectively communicate my design choices with the client. The feedback loop between us was effective, and I was able to implement their revisions and suggestions with minimal delay.

In terms of design process, I had a clear plan for the project, and was able to work through it in a structured and efficient way. However, I did find some parts of the process more challenging than others, and I realized that I need to improve my time management skills to ensure that I am delivering the best possible work within the given timeframe.

Finally, when considering the outcome of the project, I felt that the design met the client’s needs and effectively communicated the intended message to the audience. I am particularly proud of the collaborative relationship I had with the developer, which ensured that the design could be implemented within the project’s technical constraints.
